Hypnosis

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is receiving suggestions while the conscious mind is altered.  In an average day one might go through an altered state of mind several times without realizing it.  Some examples of hypnosis throughout a regular day are:

·         Becoming relaxed while watching television

·         When you're daydreaming and don't respond when someone calls your name

·         When you're driving on "auto-pilot" and miss your turn

·         Being in a state of shock

Hypnosis is receiving suggestion while the mind and body are in a relaxed state.  It is similar to meditation.

Hypnosis is a learning process...  It is a particular mental and physical state a person enters into when they accept the doctor's suggestions uncritically and act upon them.

Why does hypnosis work?

According to modern science – While you’re in a hypnotic state, your subconscious mind increases its ability to carry out change through direction or suggestion by 800% - 1000%.  This makes the hypnotic state a VERY effective tool for positive change.

How will you react?

A person reacts to hypnosis much like they react to anything else, with their normal character strivings and defenses.  Hypnosis does not rob a person of willpower or diminish their self-control.  Rather, it tends to increase the person’s self-sufficiency & inner strength.  This growth process is one of the most rewarding features of hypnosis.

“I don’t think you had me under.”  I hear this a lot.  It is often difficult for people to understand that, in hypnosis, you are aware of everything.  You can hear the telephone, the radio, and can detect movement.  You remember the conversation.  You know you can open your eyes or move your arms and legs.    Eighty-five percent of the work is done while in a light-to-medium hypnotic state.  It is a state slightly less conscious than daydreaming.  Often times if someone in the hypnotic state is asked “Are you in hypnosis?” they reply, “I am relaxed.”
