Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis for all areas of your lifeHypnosis is receiving suggestions while the conscious mind and body are in a relaxed state. In that way it is similar to meditation.

The hypnotic state is a VERY effective tool for positive change.
According to modern science – While you’re in a hypnotic state, your subconscious mind increases its ability to carry out change through direction or suggestion by 800% – 1000%.

You might go through an altered state of mind several times during a normal day without even realizing it. Some examples of this would be:

Can I Be Hypnotized?

BalanceThe short answer is yes. That’s a common question and it’s certainly understandable if you’ve never experienced clinical hypnosis before. But, let me assure you that you too can be hypnotized! You’ve already been hypnotized many times throughout your life.
Hypnosis is receiving suggestion while the mind and body are in a relaxed state.

Hypnosis is a learning process… It is a particular mental and physical state a person enters into when they accept the doctor’s suggestions uncritically and act upon them.

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis works by relaxing you and giving you the ability to bypass the analyzing part of your mind and choose new ways of thinking and doing things. It’s a process through which you can let yourself accept a certain change in behavioral patterns or thoughts. It works by getting to the root of a problem and once the roots are gone, the problem can be easily overcome.

Do you lose control when you go into hypnosis?

Emphatically, No. In hypnosis you can’t be made to say or do anything against your wishes. However, if you have a sincere desire to change, your subconscious motivations can be activated and enhanced to support rather than hinder your goals.

What is ‘NLP’?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) actually provides practical ways of bringing about changes to your behavior and motivation.

NLP and Hypnosis work to rapidly change our behaviors, thoughts and actions.   NLP Life Coaching enables you to grow from every life experience and change your perception of what is possible.  Create positive change in your thoughts and actions, and you’ll create the future you desire.

Can I get ‘stuck’ under Hypnosis?

No.  Hypnosis is a very natural and normal state and cannot hold anyone against his or her will. If a client could go so deep as to enter a unconscious state (a truly very rare occurrence), they would simply go into natural sleep and awaken when they were rested.

After hypnosis, a person awakens naturally, just as they do after sleep! If the hypnotherapist were to leave before counting them awake, the subject would eventually realize that the session had ended and would awaken on their own.

During the session, if there were an emergency, or the subject no longer wished to participate, they could easily awaken themselves at any time and simply stop.

Will hypnosis stop my addictive cravings?

Yes. Hypnosis and hypnotic suggestions give your subconscious mind an aversion, or a strong dislike, to the substance being abused.

Will I gain weight after I stop smoking?

No, because in your hypnotherapy sessions you will receive hypnotic suggestions that address this fear, and you will be given suggestions to lose weight, if you need to, or to maintain your ideal weight.

I want to taper my drinking habit, but not stop completely. Is this possible?

Yes, because it is within your control to reprogram your subconscious mind into a pattern that is healthier for you and your particular circumstance.

How long before I will see positive changes?

After the first session you will begin to feel a shift occurring in your thinking and therefore your behavior.

I’ve been through several forms of therapy, but I still feel ‘stuck’ and my anxiety and depression is the same. How can you help me get to a better place?

I hear this often. The fundamental difference between my practice and traditional talk therapy is that I use Hypnoanalysis to quickly evaluate the cause of the symptoms, addiction and/or problem, and then begin hypnotherapy and hypnotic suggestions after a thorough history has been taken and a positive rapport has been attained between my client and I.

What if I remember something I don’t want to remember?

Some clients fear that hypnosis may allow some painful memories or unacceptable feelings to emerge. There is no need to be afraid of your own mind. If the material is too difficult for you to deal with on a conscious level, your own protective subconscious mind will keep part, or all, of the memory in repression. You will only remember what is helpful for you to remember.

Can hypnosis be used as a “truth serum”?

No. People do not say things in hypnosis they do not want to say. Under hypnosis, the conscious mind is in contact with reality while the subconscious mind is receiving suggestion. When confronted with an embarrassing or incriminating question the subject will either refrain from answering or awaken in defense.

Can hypnotherapy be used effectively with children?

Yes. Once children have acquired the ability to use and understand spoken language they can benefit. Children generally make excellent hypnotic subjects. Hypnotherapy can be used safely and effectively with many childhood problems including, but not limited to, bed wetting, thumb sucking, sleepwalking, fears, school, and study problems, pain control, tics and nervous habits.

How will I react?

Hypnosis does not rob a person of willpower or diminish their self-control. Rather, it tends to increase the person’s self-sufficiency & inner strength. This growth process is one of the most rewarding features of hypnosis. People react to hypnosis pretty much like they react to anything else, with their normal character defenses and strivings.

What must I do to be hypnotized and respond successfully?

There are only three things you need to do. Allow you conscious mind to become the observer, while relaxing your physical body as you listen to the sound of the hypnotherapist’s voice and imagine and accept the suggestions given to you. Relax your body and imagine what the hypnotist suggests to you is absolutely true. Hypnosis is primarily a learning experience;  learning how to let go and let the suggestions take hold without any conscious effort to help or to hinder them.

“I don’t think you had me under.”

Call NowWe hear this a lot. It is often difficult for people to understand that, in hypnosis, you are aware of everything. You can hear the telephone, the radio, and can detect movement. You remember the conversation. You know you can open your eyes or move your arms and legs. Eighty-five percent of the work is done while in a light-to-medium hypnotic state. It is a state slightly less conscious than daydreaming. Often times if you were to ask someone in the hypnotic state, “Are you in hypnosis?” they would reply, “I’m very relaxed.”

SwanYou can be FREE of negative beliefs and emotions tied to past events and experiences and replace them with a powerful positive outlook on life and your future.
